The Fuzziness

Here stands Tianyulong confuciusi, whose name honors the ancient Confucius (K'ung Fu-tzu) and the region from where is came, Tianyu County, in Nei Mongol China, and the word long (dragon).

You will notice it is covered in filaments, like hairs but closer to feathers in structure. They are numerous over the rump, small and fine over the rest of the body. This is the only ornithischian known so far to absolutely preserved this filamentous integument, and it does so over most of its body.

Large tusks and large jaw teeth along with the shapes of its hip bones indicate that this is a heterodontosaur, a group of ornithischians which I am very fond of. I suspect the only known specimen to be something of a subadult or juvenile, given the outsized head and extremely long legs, but this is not based on a definitive analysis.
