(Panoply)

With the addition of Huaxiagnathus and the placement of Juravenator off by itself, this represents a "generic" separation of all named compsognathids that I have rendered so far. Three compsognathids remain, and will be added as I do them, though the value of adding one, Aristosuchus pusillus, is limited due to it being a partial pelvis and sacrum. The other two compsognathids, Scipionyx samniticus and Mirischia asymmetrica, will be added when they are completed and scaled to this panoply.

Excellent piece. Do Compsognathids figure anywhere in the evolutionary story of Tyrannosaurids?
:iconthomcomstock:
Very well done. I asked once before, but never received and answer; Have you published or considered a compilation of your work?

Sorry for the delay ... I replied under that image discussion.

Well, so far they seem to be farther away from birds than tyrannosaurs are. But they also share a lot of features in the shoulder and pelvis found otherwise only in tyrannosaurs among theropods, features also seen to some degree in "coelurids", which I discussed in part in my Despotosaurs skull images. They might be the ancestral morphotype that tyrannosaurs themselves adapted.

I have no idea where that is, now. I guess I missed out.

thanks for clearing this up for me. I'd erronously assumed compsognathids as the ancestors of the "despotosaurs"...
:iconqilong:
Well, they might be. The issue is of a good deal of uncertainty in systematic circles dealing with the taxa right now. One can see a good deal of similarity, but it's putting that into context that is hard.
